Automatic Chandas Processor: Project Starts

Chandas: Project Starts

I am starting the development activity of the Chandas processor / evaluator. Sorry for the delay. I got too much involved in my music composition of the GeneticMusic genre.

Please feel free to contact me if anyone is interested in participating. You may join the Chandas Yahoo Group and interact with others on this first test project. Feel free to contact me to be added / invited to the Chandas Yahoo Group.

Please note that this is the first and trial / test project on which a detailed proram will be based. No restrictions. Anyone can participate. I practice equal opportunity.

I do NOT request any funds for the program. You need to walk into the project team only with your passion for literature.

First Small Project: To develop a test software to process and evaluate chandas.

Capabilities / Specifications:

1. Set up a table / database for the different combinations of Kannada aksharas including all 'kaaguNita' derivatives. In addition to swaras and vyanjanas, make sure to include ka, kaa, ki, kee etc. Include vattaksharas also.

2. Create the guNa, maatra, laghu, guru columns for each item. For example: Here are the counts / weights - ka is 1 whereas kaa is 2; ki is 1, whereas kee is 2. Vattaksharas donate their additional weight to the preceding akshara.

3. Take the text of the poem to be processed from Baraha 5.0, copy and paste onto a MSWord document. You may also consider notepad depending on your software interface needs.

4. You may use the MSWord macro features for processing. Make sure to transfer or add (as necessary) line and stanza separators. You may use MS Visual Basic or C, C++ or any other suitable software.

5. Create a tally of the weights subtotal for each line.

6. Validate the line total for specified count of the type of chandas to be verified. It is a good idea to create a look up table for the different chandas styles.

7. Print out the line counts. Indicate if it meets the required chandas in a distinct font or color.

8. You could use html type of hot links for annotations in future versions to show the count for each akshara, word, line or stanza. You could also create an MSWord table (with expandable Excel type of spreadsheet) to display the process results.

More ideas in my next post.
